In this episode of the series, Empowering Teachers For Success, we are taking a closer look at students and how they perceive their successes or failures, the impact on the mental and emotional well-being, and how this information can affect education reform. This episode's guest is Dawsher Charles, Founder and Managing Director of Survival Scholars.
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) refers to a disorder that affects sensory perceptions. The brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes through the sensory organs.
Children and adults who have a sensory processing disorder may be sensitive to certain sounds, tastes, touch, smells and sights. Such sensitivities can lead to behaviours that teachers may believe to be disruptive. Understanding the disorder and how it can impact teaching is important for all educators.
In this video, a parent, Dolores King, talks freely about her son's Sensory Processing Disorder, the behaviours that are associated with the disorder, how she advocates for him, and what his teachers do to assist, A very imformative video that will benefit both parents and students.
In this series, I chat with Caribbean authors who have written books that motivate, educate and empower others to embrace positive values to live by, explore their powerful potential, and force readers to be more introspective about their own biases and lives.
Let's meet the creator of the series, Messy Marvyn and Friends, Cherly M. Charles, a woman who sees her journey with this series as a personal life saver for her. Cheryl was born in Trinidad and Tobago but spent most of her life here in Canada. She would tell you that her journey with Marvyn started about 20 years ago until she finally brought his story to life.
Messy Marvyn and Friends is about a group of young friends of diverse backgrounds and who have different personalities. Messy Marvyn' Rainy Day Fun and those to follow demonstrate caring, acceptance and kindness. We will also be discussing Cheryl's own struggles, how they have shaped her life, and how her writing is helping.
